Today was one of those days- you know the kind, where nothing seems to go your way. I feel like I have been walking up hill all day! There were a few highlights, but they were few. When I woke up, it was later than I wanted (haven't decided if sleeping in was good or bad yet), so my extremely long to do list was getting a late start. After breakfast, switching out the laundry, taking a quick shower, and getting the kids ready, I was ready to start running the errands. One problem- I could not find my keys! This would not have been so bad if I had not been in the drive way with the house locked and the van locked and the garage door down when I discovered it! I was not happy! I crawled under the van and got the extra key (totally thankful for that little magnetic box and a husband that put it there!) to unlock the van and use the garage door opener to get back in the house. After a thorough search, the keys were no where to be found! I called Les and he had no idea where they were either. My start was even later now! I finally just resigned myself to using the extra key and getting my day underway. First stop was the softball fields- the last place I remember having them. They were not there and no one had turned them in. So off to stop #2- the post office. We just needed to drop a letter off to be mailed, but after searching my entire purse, my stamps were no where to be found! Are you seeing a theme??? Ella was so bummed because it is her job to take the envelope in and put it in the correct slot. So we just continued on our way- paid a bill, lunch (Taco Bell that was slow and Ella was so cranky I wanted to beat her in the middle of the restaurant!!), $$Tree, and finally Wal-Mart. As we were leaving the parking lot, I remember to call my dad and wish him a Happy Birthday. We came home, unloaded the van and continued with chores. Matthew was determined to play in the front yard even though I had things to do in the house. I am so thankful he was stubborn- he found my keys! They were in the grass! A certain 5 year old (ELLA), was turning cartwheels and using my keys as her target. She conveniently remembered when Matthew found the keys. I have a million things to do for the last day of summer school tomorrow, the beach on Friday and the start of school for 3 of my 4 in the three weeks, but right now I just want to sit down and catch my breath.

a fish tale

Once upon a time, 2 big people took their 4 little people (and an extra friend) fishing at a pond. They had poles, worms, bobbers, and excitement. They wanted to catch some fish! One of the big, little girls even made a list, so they could keep track of the many fish they caught. The guy big person was very important to the little people because he was the best at putting the worms on the hooks. They tried the dock, but no luck. They moved down the path, but still no luck. The smallest of the little people decided it would be more fun to just throw rocks in the pond instead of fish, so that's what they did. Then the guy big person caught a fish!! Everyone was very excited! But that was to be the only one. :( Oh well, the group had a good time anyway.

I absolutely hate doing laundry. It takes so long. It has so many steps. There are six of us so that is so much of it. I have told my husband on many occasions that I would love someone to come in and take care of the laundry for me. (gather, sort, wash, dry, fold, hang, put away) I am sure that would make it so much easier to keep up with all the other household chores. Right??

2 weeks ago this Friday, I received a call from the school nurse telling me that Jonathon had fallen at lunch and hurt his ankle. Now, just so you know, I am a hard nose mom- "ah, you'll be okay" kind of mentality. Side note -this is the same day my husband surprised me and took the day off so he could take me on my first trip to IKEA. We were on our way home when we received the call. Back to the story. When I went into the nurses office, I was thinking sprain and wasn't even planning on taking him to the doctor. The nurse strongly suggested we have an xray done, so Les took me and the little ones home and took Jonathon to the urgent care for an xray. Well it is broke. He broke his fibula (the small shin bone) where it meets his growth plate. He came home with it wrapped and in an air cast and on crutches. I was shocked! Then I started to feel bad because I wasn't even going to have it checked and it is broke!! Well the next morning, after Ella's basketball game and before Grace's basketball game, Les took Jonathon to the Ortho Urgent Care (didn't even know this existed!) expecting to get a cast. He actually got the boot. Because the fracture was stable, he could just wear a walking boot. It is heavy and he is very LOUD when he walks (his foot is a size 14!), but it is so much better than crutches and a cast. The most frustrating part of the whole thing is he had to miss the last week of basketball season. Hopefully he heals quick and he has no problems with it in the future.

We celebrated birthdays, learned to walk, got bunk beds, went on field trips, won awards for being totally awesome, went to the beach, started a new school year (all 4 of my kiddos!!!), went to the mountains, and had our first ever white Christmas. What an amazing year for this family! Can' wait to see how great 2011 is!!
